Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about postpartum doula services and support

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to families during the postpartum period. We help with newborn care, breastfeeding support, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and emotional support as you adjust to life with your new baby. Our goal is to help you feel confident and supported during this transition.

It's best to hire a postpartum doula during your pregnancy, ideally in your second or third trimester. This allows time to meet, discuss your needs, and create a care plan. However, we can also provide support if you reach out after your baby is born. Many families benefit from doula support for the first 6-12 weeks postpartum.

Overnight care is typically a 8-10 hour shift and focuses on allowing parents to get restorative sleep while we care for the baby. Daytime care usually runs 4-6 hours during the day and includes broader support like meal prep, light housekeeping, sibling care, and emotional support alongside newborn care.

No, postpartum doulas do not provide medical care. We are not medical professionals and cannot diagnose conditions or provide medical advice. However, we are trained to recognize when medical attention may be needed and will encourage you to contact your healthcare provider when appropriate.

Yes! I provide breastfeeding support including positioning assistance, latch help, and general guidance. However, for complex breastfeeding issues, I may recommend consulting with a lactation consultant (IBCLC) who has specialized medical training in lactation.

I love working with families who have older children! Our sibling doula service provides special attention to help older siblings adjust to their new role. This includes age-appropriate activities, emotional support, help with routines, and ensuring they feel included and loved during this family transition. This also include on call personalized care during hospital stays and homebirths

Postpartum doula support can benefit any family, but it's especially helpful if you're a first-time parent, have limited family support nearby, are recovering from a difficult birth, have multiples, or simply want professional guidance during the early weeks. During our consultation, we'll discuss your specific needs and how I can best support your family.
